Volunteers Needed

We urgently need some fairly computer-literate volunteers.

The RA Walks Database and Group websites

We still need more volunteers to help run group websites and to enter the details of the different Groups' walks into the RA's central walks database.

To enter walks information and to run websites, you will need access to the internet.

Walks information can be entered directly into the RA website 'on line'. An hour a month would upload a useful number of walks. The more people involved, the less work for everyone.

If you prefer to enter the information off-line and then upload it, the Area can provide you with Excel, if you don't already have a copy.

You won't have to attend committee meetings or lead walks. This is something you will be able to do whenever you have a bit of spare time.

Helping with a website is not as hard as it sounds and can be quite fun - please ask for details.

IT is particularly needed by the Barnsley & Penistone, Bolsover and Rotherham Metro Groups, which do not at present have their own websites.

It is unfortunate that this area, which has played such a major role in the past in achieving the right of access to the countryside, is in danger of losing new members because we are falling behind in our use of IT. Some progress has been made in recent years and many Groups have gained new members via their websites and on-line walk details, but much more could be done!

If you want to enter data in the walks database or to help with other aspects of IT (such as website maintenance), get in touch with Paul Clarke saying which Group you belong to.

Please note that there's no reason why a member of one Group can't help another Group - or why a non-member (e.g. someone who supports our aims but doesn't walk for a variety of personal reasons) can't help, if so inclined. Anyone with professional IT experience or connections is particularly welcome to assist - for instance by offering to redesign, revamp or set up websites for us and/or to provide free web hosting.
