The Ramblers AssociationThe Ramblers Association is a national organisation, with over 130,000 members. Members are linked with one of around 423 groups across the country, such as the Groups in this Area. As well as being able to take part in organised walks, members receive copies of the quarterly Rambler magazine and an annually updated Ramblers Yearbook and Accommodation Guide. The Ramblers Association exists to facilitate, for the benefit of everyone, the enjoyment and discovery that walking outdoors can bring, and to promote respect for the life of the countryside. Our aims are: encouraging walking among all ages and social backgrounds protecting rights of way (footpaths) defending the beauty of the countryside campaigning for freedom to roam over uncultivated open country We work to further these aims through our campaigning work, regular walking and campaigning events, and through our publications and information services. The association is a democratic, voluntary organisation, registered as a charity (no.306089)." We encourage all walkers to join the Ramblers Association. (Non-members are very welcome to come on two or three of our walks before joining, if they would like to try them out.) Membership is handled by the National Office. When you have joined through them, your name and address will be passed to a Group, nomally the one covering the area where you live. You will then receive walks programmes for that Group.
