INTRODUCTION The Rotherham Metro Group of the Ramblers Association was formed in early 1986 and this year is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The Group represents most of the area of the Metropolitan Borough of Rotherham except for the townships of Kilnhurst, Swinton, Wath-upon-Dearne, West Melton and Brampton which all fall within the area of our friends in the adjoining Dearne Valley Group. About The GroupOver the years the Rotherham Metro Group has built up a reputation for being friendly and welcoming. At the present time we have just over 300 members. A full programme of walks and social events is run each year, which are open to both members of the Ramblers’ Association and non-members alike. If you would like to come on a walk have a look at our programme and see which ones best suit you. If you are new to walking or are returning to it after a break then why not try one of our shorter walks. Why not bring along some family and friends. Programme Of WalksThe Group aims to cater for all ramblers and plans its walking programme around the requirements of our members and the availability of voluntary walk leaders from within the Ramblers™ Association. We endeavour to offer as varied a range of walks as possible within our diverse local landscapes. Our walks take place every Saturday and every other Wednesday. These are normally circular routes finishing at the original starting point and covering distances of between 5 and 16 miles. Most of the walks are in South and West Yorkshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire with occasional forays into Lancashire, Cheshire and Staffordshire. Both terrain and walking conditions can vary considerably so those new to walking are advised to check our Guidance Notes (click here) before selecting a walk.
