The South Yorkshire and North East Derbyshire (SYNED) Area of The Ramblers has various local groups and is administered by an annually elected Area Council. The Area AGM is usually held in January of each year - hosted in turn by the various groups.

Members and affiliated organisations also receive a regular newletter (Area News).

Local groups arrange their own programmes of walks, many of which are now listed on the Ramblers' national Group Walksfinder database, which can be searched by area, location, etc.

Group members also receive a printed walks and events/meetings programme.

The SYNED area offers a wide variety of walking opportunities, from the high moorland of the Dark Peak to the west, the lowland moors of Thorne and Hatfield to the east, the "Last of the Summer Wine" country in the north, to the Derbyshire Dales in the south.

In the area there is a long tradition of campaigning for footpaths, public access to mountain and moorland and on countryside issues.

It has a diverse and fascinating countryside offering many varied walking experiences, whether exploring the many sites of prehistoric interest or the extensive wildlife habitats.

Each Group has its walks programme (many also have their own websites and email contacts - see links in column on right), with walks ranging from easy to strenuous. Some groups have special walks for the visually impaired and others with special needs. There are also groups for particular age ranges.
